Hi there i’m doing my Arts award arts hero on Dr.Seuss and i made a project board for it.

·        Dr.Seuss’s full name was Theodor Seuss Giesel, he was born 1904 Springfield MA on the second of March he died September fourth 1991. He lived in America all his life but his mother was German so he was German by origin. Dr.Seuss learned how he rhymed in his books from his mother singing him rhyming songs when he was younger. A bit later in life he managed to collect over 500 hats and if he ever invited people round for dinner he’d make the guests bring a hat or wear one of his.

·        For every job Dr.seuss ever had like advertising which was one of his jobs or making cartoons for the military which was also one of his jobs he always found a way to incorporate drawing into it, thats probably one of the ways he got his creativeness. He joined the Military and still managed to draw.

·        My favourite of his books is Green Eggs and Ham its just so funny.

·        His post famous books are Green Eggs and Ham and the Cat in the Hat.

·        The cat  in the hat was one of the things that made him very famous and one of his first books.
·        Dr.Seuss is one of the most iconic childrens writers and he helped me learning to read when i was younger.

·        Dr.Seuss is by far one of my favourite children’s authors, i still do actually read some of his books but not so much as i used too.
·        His Rhymes just seem to flow they’re not stiff.. They’re really interesting to read because they’re funny and really enjoyable.
·        I also absolutely love his art style, its just like he puts the pen on the paper draws a line and then makes something with it. He doesn’t set out to draw things thats how he designed most of his characters.
·        His colouring style is really really hard.. I actually wonder how he manages to colour with such precision, did he use a printing press or something to colour them?

·        He also made statues so he was an author a sculptor and an artist.

·        Dr.Seuss likes to stick to one colour scheme in his drawings. You know how to Grinch is green, Dr.Seuss’ friend who was working on the Grinch animation with him actually had to persuade Dr.Seuss to let the Grinch be green with yellow eyes because Dr.Seuss always stuck to a colour scheme. On my project board i used his colour schemes.

·        Dr.Seuss never wrote or drew anything dark or disturbing .
·        His art style is really hard to replicate, I tried with a few drawings on my project board and i’m pretty pleased with how it turned out.

This is the sketch i drew for the Crandle. I wanted to see if i could try and re-create his art in my style.

After that I used the base idea of the Crandle and tried to make a character based of it. I made some rough sketches the start off with.

I outlined the cats and tried using the style of shading that he used. It was harder for me to do this because i was using a computer drawing program as opposed to pen and ink as Dr.Seuss used.

These are the cats that i drew in the end. The bottom one has candles on his head because he's a fire Kumi wanna be.  A Kumi is a species i made up, they are fox like and each Kumi has some sort of element on the tips of their tails and ears (ex. Water, Fire, Earth ect)

This was the final result. I tried to incorporate his style into these, taking ideas that he had and enhancing my style with it. Also taking things i liked and using them.

Here are some coloured drawings of the cats that i did.

Here we go, neither of them have names yet.
I experimented a bit more with the shading technique and found a way to erase the black lines
partially.

I drew a side view and a front view for this. This one is fullbody this time.

I really enoyed finding out more about one of my favorite artists and hope to do more things like this.

Art Portfolio Diary- Trip to London Pre raphaelites Exhibition Tate Britain

Art Portfolio Diary- Trip to London Pre Raphaelites Exhibition Tate Britain -PART A - Take Part,

What: Pre Raphaelites exhibition

Where: Tate Britain- London- England
When: Saturday 1st if December
Why: For learning about the Pre raphaelite art and inspiration.

" Ophelia"
Ophelia is a painting by British artist Sir John Everett Millais

REVIEW of my Day:

It was awesome because the Pre raphaelites were amazingly realistic in their art also they went completely off what people thought was art in those days. Also the anatomy was amazing it made me want to draw humans more. The whole experience was extremely inspiring and I plan to study them more.

My favourite artist was William Holman Hunt and my favourite piece was by him and called "The Scapegoat". It had a religious meaning to it, in one culture people used to send out one goat with all the sins of the village into a bleak place where it would die. Before they sent it out they would tie a piece of red cloth to its head so it would turn white in the sun which would mean the sins of the village were forgiven. I loved this painting because of its bleak and hopeless feeling and it was one if the only paintings which had an animal as its main subject.

One of my other favourites was a series of three paintings by Edward Burns Jones they were called "The Rock of Doom", " The Doom Fulfilled" and "The Baleful Head".
These paintings were telling the story of Perseus ,a Greek hero , who saved andromeda ,a Greek princess , from a sea monster. I haven't read that story but I'd like too.

I loved these paintings because I love Greek mythology and I've been listening to " Percy Jackson : the lighting thief" and Perseus is Percy's full name the Greek Perseus is his namesake so I was interested to see what the Greek Perseus had done. Also in "The Doom Fulfilled" you got to see Perseus fighting the sea monster which was awesome because I love dragons and sea serpents. The serpent in the painting

                                                                     The Rock of Doom

                                                                     The Doom Fulfilled

The Baleful Head

My other favourite is "The Woodsmans's Daughter" by John Everett Milais.
This painting is funny and cute it has a nervous air. The interactions between the boy and girl remind me of some role plays I did with some of my online friends. I also like the subject matter and where tits set because I love the forest and nature. The whole thing captivates the emotion nd is very well done with the father of the little girl chopping some shrubs behind them.

Why do I think the artist painted this ?

The woodsmans daughter: For me the message here is " Watch out for your crushes father".]

Art Portfolio Diary British museum London - Mesopotamia Gallery

Art Portfolio Diary - Trip to the British museum London - Mesopotamia Gallery

What: Mesopotamian gallery.

Where: Mesopotamian gallery-British museum-London-England

When:4th of December 2012

REVIEW Of My Day
I was studying Mesopotamia and wondered what I could learn from the British museum. We went to the Museum to study up on the area because we read a book called "Treasure of the Tigris"set in Mesopotamia and wondered if we could find out anything else about the place.

What I liked/found interesting:
 ---------------------------------------------
It was interesting to get an overall view on the culture and art.

What I learned:
----------------------

I liked the way they stylised their anatomy like the Egyptians did.

My Fave's and how  I applied what inspired me today
------------------------------------------------------------------------
My favourites were the copper lions that hung in a case near the entrance of the gallery.
There were two adults and two cubs.

The cubs faces were amazing because they looked lifelike without looking overly detailed and the eyes had no pupils which gave them a hopeless feeling, because of this i based a character of the cubs and named it Crackle. I still need to finalise the design though.

                                                         Dr.Seuss project board:

I decided to make a project board to celebrate Dr.Seuss's life and art
instead of a video or any other method.
I started off by doing some research on Dr.Seuss, I need something to put on there after all.
Next I made the base sketches for the parts of the project board.
Below i'm just drawing the sketches.

Then I coloured the sketches to pay around with colour schemes, trying to stick with the colours Dr.Seuss used.

After that i added some of the art I did based on his art and showed the process of how I got the inspiration and used it.

Next I played around with placing until I was happy then I refined the base sketches colouring them accordingly.

Now off to do the final presentation board !
